The first mistake to boosting metabolism is simply put, not understanding the body and how it looses weight. It is impossible to succeed in something unless you fully understand it. To understand the science behind weight loss, you first need to know what happens to the food you eat. The simplest way to explain it is that when you eat, your body changes the nutrients into energy and other things that it needs to maintain it.
Metabolism is the process by which this is done. So you can have a high metabolism or fast metabolic rate which means your body does this process faster than someone who has a low metabolism or slow metabolic rate.
Energy in the body is measured in units known as calories. Food goes in as fats, protein, carbohydrates etc. and metabolic processes use up the food calories in the body. Therefore the more calories your body can burn the higher your metabolic rate. Metabolism is critical to survival because it allows the body to generate the energy it needs to go about daily activities and also to heal and repair tissues and to eliminate toxins. But people with a slower metabolism end up storing more fat in their bodies because anything that is not used is converted to fat.
